Sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC)

NaDCC is the sodium salt of a chlorinated hydroxy triazine and it is used as a source of free available chlorine (FAC), in the form of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) for the disinfection of water. NaDCC is more stable in sunlight than most other sources of chlorine, hence, widely used for the disinfection of swimming pools and the food industry. NaDCC is also used to disinfect drinking water, primarily in emergencies due to its easy-to-use source of free chlorine and, since 2007, as the form of chlorine for household point-of-use water treatment (World Health Organization, 2008)

GERMISEP dissolves in water to form hypochlorous acid and sodium cyanurate. Hypochlorous acid is the active germicidal/microbicidal agent resulting in disinfection. Hypochlorous acid reacts and breaks down with the protein walls and enzyme systems, resulting in the destruction of the germs/microbes.

GERMISEP is a chlorine-based disinfectant that has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. It does not leave toxic residues, is unaffected by water hardness, is cost-effective and acts rapidly, is effective against biofilms, and has a low incidence of serious toxicity (Rutala, 1997) Generally, there are TWO main types of chorine-based disinfectant, namely the more prevalent type i.e., Hypochlorite (sodium hypochlorite available in liquid form, or calcium hypochlorite available in solid form) or alternative compounds that release chlorine such as demand release chlorine dioxide, sodium dichloro isocyanurate and chloramine-T. Although both the sodium hypochlorite and NaDCC systems rely on hypochlorous acid as the source of free available chlorine, there are important differences in their performances as a disinfectant

GERMISEP is best used as surface disinfectant. It is not recommended to replace an alcohol-based hand sanitizer for routine hand hygiene. The US Centre for disease control and prevention (CDC) has recommended the use of alcohol-based disinfectant containing 70% of alcohol for small area disinfection and chlorine-based disinfectant for surface disinfection.

GERMISEP kills and eliminates 99.999% of bacteria, germs, viruses and other microbes, being one of the disinfectants with the widest spectrum of coverage, thus only ONE disinfectant is required for all disinfecting needs.
GERMISEP is readily available in effervescent tablet for easy, accurate and rapid preparation. It can be safely and conveniently prepared without the need of additional personal protective equipment or measuring apparatus, thus saving time and ease storage.
GERMISEP cost per liter (L) is much lower than house bleach, thus saving cost long term.

GERMISEP can be used in various applications both in a professional and residential setting, literally, anywhere disinfection is required. In the healthcare setting, for instance, GERMISEP can be used to disinfect body wastes, contaminated objects, wound disinfection, infected linens, general the environment in the healthcare facilities, etc.
Meanwhile, at home, GERMISEP could be used to disinfect the floor, knobs, handles and switches, toys, bathroom, laundry, etc.

GERMISEP solution is at pH 5.5-6.7 with 90% undissociated HOCl available for germicidal activity, whereas liquid hypochlorite is alkaline and has lower germicidal activity due to small amount of undissociated HOCl. GERMISEP solution also has a better safety profile at pH closer to the skin’s ideal pH of 5.5, whereas commercial liquid hypochlorite usually contains 5% sodium hypochlorite, giving it a pH around 11-12, causing it to be mildly irritating to the skin.

GERMISEP is prepared using tap water and is gentle on the hand. You only need to watch out for the dilution volume to ensure the right concentration is prepared for your disinfection need. Gloves are generally not required unless the skin is sensitive or allergic towards chlorine or any of the ingredients in GERMISEP

If swallowed, GERMISEP might cause stomach discomfort and this can be overcome by drinking a glass of milk.[hd4] If the discomfort persisted, immediately bring the product bottle to the nearest healthcare center to seek for medical assistance.

NaDCC tablets are widely used for water disinfection in household and emergency situations. Therefore, ingesting a small amount of Germisep solution will not cause any major damage to household pets.
GERMISEP, a NaDCC based disinfectant, dissolves in water to form hypochlorous acid and sodium dichloroisocyanurate. The available chlorine in the chlorinated solution is rapidly reduced by saliva and stomach fluid to harmless chloride ion salts (Kotiabao et al., 1992). Numerous studies have suggested that chlorinated isocyanurates no more than slightly toxic and not corrosive. Meanwhile, chronic and sub-chronic toxicity studies also found no toxicity in chlorinated isocyanurates (Clasen and Edmonton, 2006). Chlorinated isocyanurates are not accumulated or metabolized in the body (WHO, 2008)

Expired GERMISEP should be discarded following the recommendation of the local authority and guidelines. Unused GERMISEP solution can be safely discarded through the sinkhole.

GERMISEP in its original packaging should be stored in a cool and dry place and away from sunlight.

GERMISEP will not cause any environmental damage as GERMISEP is biodegradable. It biodegrades in both soil and ambient water system in which it degrades to carbon dioxide and ammonia so it does not accumulate in the environment (Saldick, 1975; Jesse et al., 1983; de Souza et al., 1998; Ghosh & Philip, 2006; Satsuma, 2006; Shiomi et al., 2006).
